Update - Melbourne Airport EBA Negotiations

On Thursday, 30 November representatives of the Australian Manufacturing Workers’ Union (AMWU) and Electrical Trade Union (ETU) advised Daifuku BCS that employees would be taking protected industrial action at Melbourne Airport as of 12.01am on Saturday, December 2.

For more than six months Daifuku BCS has been negotiating a new enterprise agreement with our employees and union representatives. This follows successful negotiations of agreements with unions at other sites around the country.

Daifuku BCS remains committed to a strong and healthy relationship with our employees and is committed to securing a fair and reasonable agreement with the Melbourne Airport team as soon as possible.

The industrial action taken by the AMWU and ETU is disappointing but we are keen to continue good faith negotiations and resolve outstanding issues.

Our immediate priority however is to ensure the continuing successful and safe travel of passengers during this industrial action, so we have implemented contingency plans, including additional staff, which have seen operations at Melbourne Airport continue as normal for passengers.

We take the security and safety of passengers seriously and government regulations require that secure area access is limited to people undertaking work duties.

Once the AMWU and ETU had commenced industrial action, Daifuku BCS took the appropriate response action available to it under the Fair Work Act, to restrict employees who have indicated they will not perform work duties, from attending work and accessing secure areas.

We are committed to completing an enterprise agreement that provides a fair and reasonable outcome for our employees and our company, and continues to allow it to provide the best possible services for travellers.

Daifuku BCS is also committed to providing continued services to passengers at Melbourne Airport, despite the current industrial action.
